On Earth as

it is in Heaven

Our Vision
Our Vision

On Earth as it is in Heaven

Jesus taught us to pray for God’s kingdom of peace, wholeness, and justice to fill the earth. As his followers, we are called not only to pray for this kingdom but to seek it first and live as participants in its coming. On earth as it is in heaven means the world is not disposable but destined for renewal. We join Christ in the reconciliation and restoration of all things, laying down our own empires, taking up our cross, and sharing in God’s work of healing the world.

We live for heaven breaking into earth — healing, reconciling, and renewing all things in Christ.

Our Mission

Wherever you are, as it is in Heaven

We are called to embody Christ’s transforming presence in our community. This begins with surrender—allowing our lives to be reshaped by his love and conformed to his likeness. We cultivate the life and way of Jesus within us, then carry that life into every sphere we inhabit. To pray ‘on earth as it is in heaven’ is to make ourselves available as living stewards of God’s kingdom, wherever we are and with whomever we dwell.

We carry the life of Jesus into every place we go, until earth looks more like heaven.

Rooted in History, Alive in Faith

Established in 1887, the ‘Eureka Methodist Church’ was built by local community members on land donated by Andrew and Kate Johnston ( Dean’s great-great grandparents). The church served the community faithfully for 130 years before being closed in 2017. After a period of lying dormant, the church was reopened in 2019 as ‘Hinterland Chapel’.

Hinterland Chapel is a local, grassroots community church. We are a small yet vibrant and welcoming community of people who gather to celebrate the love of God. Whilst being non-denominational, we very much see ourselves as part of the historic community of faith that sprung up around the person of Jesus, and continues to blossom wherever people are available and attentive to the Spirit’s call.

We would love to welcome you at one of our Sunday gatherings or midweek house churches.

Dean & Kylie Johnston

Dean and Kylie have a deep love for God, people, and the unique community that has grown around Hinterland Chapel. As pastors, their heart is to nurture faith, cultivate authentic relationships, and create space where people can encounter the transforming love of Jesus. With a rich family connection to the chapel’s history, they see their role as both a continuation of that legacy and a step into God’s ongoing story. Whether gathering on Sundays, sharing life in homes, or simply walking alongside others, Dean and Kylie lead with humility, joy, and a passion for seeing people flourish in Christ.
